PRE-INTERMEDIATE: This 2 hour course has the same aims as the Intermediate course with special attention on consolidation. Pre-intermediate students are advised to do at least 6 hours independent study per week either at home or in CLIFU using audio and video material.

ADVANCED: This is a short course ( 2 hours / 3 months) that will enable students to do the first year exam successfully in January. the course will mainly focus on exam practice and revision and reinforcement of language structures. Students are encouraged to do the exam in January, but if they wish, they may continue attending the course in the second semester and take the exam in May.

Old Use of English exam papers with answers

If you sign up for a Lettorato you are expected to attend regularly, do homework that is assigned and also do additional self-study work.

If you are absent three times in a row you will lose your place in the lettorato group

Students who...

1) attend at least 70% of the lessons in both semesters and
2) participate actively and
3) do most of the homework assignment

...will receive an extra point to add to their Lettorato exam mark if the exam has been passed with at least 18 points.

CLIFU (Centro Linguistico Interfacoltà per le Facoltà Umanistiche). Here you can use the language learning facilities: audio and video labs, video materials, CD Roms, satellite TV and internet laboratory.

CLIFU provides very useful guided tours for first year students. You can enquire about them at the front desk or write to clifu@unito.it

You can do the dictations here or they can be copied on request. The dictations that go with TheFirst Year Dictation Pack are listed with the following reference numbers: M00618, M00619, MOO620 and MOO623. You can also practise dictation online.

If for some reason you are unable to attend a Lettorato we recommend you contact the Lettore responsible for co-ordinating the 1st year so that you can plan a self-study programme in preparation for the exam.
